This remake of a 1991 comedy pits Ben Stiller, a nurse, against Robert De Niro, his girlfriend’s father, in whose eyes he can do no right. They meet for the first time when a family wedding brings the couple to New York for an anticlimactic weekend of catastrophes. Scenes that should have been uproarious are weaker than many of the movie’s smaller moments, whose everyday humor—much of it about the annoyances of air travel—isn’t specific to the plot or characters. Jay Roach (the “Austin Powers” series) directed a screenplay by Jim Herzfeld and John Hamburg; with Teri Polo and Blythe Danner. 107 min.
