This is neither the Pudovkin film nor the Naruse, but a film written and directed by Zenzo Matsuyama. Set in 1955, it concerns the family conflicts that ensue when a mother turns from taking care of her five children in order to concentrate on looking after her husband when he is injured. On the same program, Keisuke Kinoshita’s Father, about a prospective politician who sets up a women’s professional wrestling match and tries his hand at other kinds of work, moving with his wife from one town to the next and jeopardizing his marriage in the process.
