This time Jackie Chan cohosts a cooking show before becoming innocently involved in a conflict—with a Melbourne crime syndicate trying to retrieve an incriminating videotape. The head bad guy (Richard Norton) is ultrafastidious—gags about his henchmen grumbling as they cover their shoes before entering his palatial home lay the groundwork for the finale—and he’s a fine foil for Chan’s character, who, always looking out for someone other than himself, frequently gets dirty and loses his composure. The character’s knack for inadvertently making his girlfriend jealous is a running joke, and the actor’s ability to convey nuances of feeling in the context of everyone’s cartoonish behavior is impressive. Samo Hung directed a screenplay by Edward Tang and Fibi Ma.
