The once-promising director Cédric Klapisch follows up Russian Dolls (2005) and Paris (2008) with another glossy coffee-table book of a film, presenting familiar content through handsome, instantly forgettable images. It’s a would-be social satire about a straight-talking single mom (Karin Viard) who begins working as a maid when she’s laid off from her factory job. She ends up in the employ of a selfish hedge-fund manager (Gilles Lellouche) who’s a single parent himself, and if you’re half-awake, you should be able to predict the course of their relationship in the first 20 minutes. Viard is appealing enough as a Carol Burnett-like comic presence; she deserves a better movie. In French with subtitles.
