The premise that a 25-year-old copy editor at the Sun-Times has never been kissed is dropped and picked up again a little too conveniently in this romantic comedy, but Drew Barrymore?s virtuoso performance smooths over the plot holes. An aspiring reporter, she craves an undercover assignment and is finally given one—pretending to be a teenager so she can get an inside story at a local high school. She seems as likely to be humiliated there as when she was 17—until her athletic brother enrolls in the school too, helping her to become cool by association. Raja Gosnell directed a screenplay by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein; with David Arquette, Molly Shannon, John C. Reilly, Garry Marshall, Michael Vartan, Leelee Sobieski, and Jeremy Jordan.
