Night School has all the trappings of the usual Kevin Hart movie, but his brand of over-the-top, self-deprecating humor is in top form as he plays Teddy Walker, a high school dropout who is forced to finally get his GED after his workplace is burned down . . . by him. Hilarity ensues, not only thanks to the fantastic Tiffany Haddish as the teacher we all wish we all had, but also to diverse comedic talents that include Rob Riggle, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Keith David, Taran Killam, and rapper Fat Joe in an uncredited role as a prison inmate who joins the class via Skype. The smooth-talking Teddy learns the usual lessons, but it’s a way that’s surprisingly fun as the movie organically fleshes out his misfit classmates and addresses the various issues they’re struggling with. Too bad Arrow‘s Megalyn Echikunwoke doesn’t get much to do besides be the perfectly beautiful love interest.
