A young, horny, and apparently talentless New York filmmaker (Olivia Thirlby) visits a friend of a friend (John Krasinski) in Los Angeles to get help with the sound design of her latest project, and their sexual attraction makes life uncomfortable for his wife (Rosemarie DeWitt), kids, and personal assistant. This dreary independent drama is essentially an art-world soap opera, but without the melodramatic verve that makes some soap operas interesting. Its most profound insight is that people can’t get exactly what they want all the time, a message that may seem trite to anyone who actually works for living. Ry Russo-Young (You Wont Miss Me) directed a script she wrote with Lena Dunham (the HBO series Girls).
