George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and director Steven Soderbergh went to Amsterdam and Rome, and all we got was this lousy movie. OK, it’s not that bad, though in contrast to Ocean’s Eleven (2001), which gave its megastars a neat little heist story, this sequel is both contrived and convoluted. Professional thief Danny Ocean (Clooney) reunites his colorful crew (Pitt, Damon, Bernie Mac, Don Cheadle, Carl Reiner, Elliott Gould, et al) to pull a series of European heists, assisted by his wife (Julia Roberts) and chased by a sexy police detective (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Clooney, Pitt, and Damon deliver some relaxed comedy along the way, and the spy-groove sound track is irresistible. But like the Rat Pack movie from the 60s, this is just a cool pair of sunglasses you get to wear around for a while. With Andy Garcia. PG-13, 125 min.
