When something goes wrong during a hypnotherapy session, Peter (Ron Livingston) is reborn. No longer frustrated by his generic job at a generic company, where the slightest mistake provokes intense criticism, he loses all sense of responsibility, ambition, and guilt and begins to pursue his dream of doing absolutely nothing. Until the story diverges from a similar agenda, the gags about the daily grind and what happens when a drone forgets how to be submissive make for beautifully low-key satire, and the caricatures of office types seem clever. But then the hero shrugs off his lethargy and the plot turns to an embezzlement scheme he engineers. Mike Judge, creator of Beavis and Butt-head, directed this 1999 feature; with Gary Cole and Jennifer Aniston.
