This amiable fiction-documentary hybrid (2010) profiles the friendship of three men late in life: a recently retired financial officer, an 80ish mechanic, and a 90-something former adventurer who still likes to chase the ladies. The episodic narrative follows the men as they discover new interests and learn to stay young at heart. These developments may be highly familiar from countless films and sitcoms about senior citizens, but the movie is individuated by its rugged locations (in the small coastal city of Everett, Washington) and uninflected performances by the nonprofessional cast, both of which keep it from becoming overly saccharine. Taylor Guterson wrote, directed, produced, shot, and edited.
