On Broadway

Joey McIntyre (of New Kids on the Block) gives a charming performance in this Boston-set indie comedy (2007), playing a carpenter who gets bitten by the theater bug. After writing a semiautobiographical play, he quits his job in order to produce and direct it, nearly going bankrupt in the process, but his friends and family stick by him as he gets his production off the ground. The let’s-put-on-a-show narrative is familiar but agreeable; the characters are likable, and there are some funny one-liners. Dave McLaughlin directed his own script.
