The 22nd annual festival opens with a shorts program that includes Jia Zhang-ke’s Cry Me a River (2008, 19 min.) and Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s A Letter to Uncle Boonmee (2009, 18 min.), a predecessor to his Cannes award winner Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. A full festival schedule can be found at chicagofilmmakers.org; see next week’s issue for a festival roundup by Fred Camper.
