An incoherent blend of Moby-Dick, King Kong, and Jaws, hindered by what appears to be extensive reediting (one character killed in flashback turns up again in the present). Richard Harris stars as an Irish fisherman pursued by a killer whale, while Charlotte Rampling looks on in quiet awe. Michael Anderson’s direction shows a little more depth than usual, but the real auteur of this 1977 release is producer Dino Di Laurentiis, who proves that no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.
