I’m not sure why this movie was made. Former journalist and first-time writer-director Peter Landesman presents in exacting detail what happened in Dallas after President Kennedy was assassinated, focusing on the doctors at Parkland Hospital, Abraham Zapruder, several CIA agents, and Lee Harvey Oswald’s immediate family. There are no intimations of conspiracy or, for that matter, politics of any kind, nor does Landesman try to understand his subjects beyond the roles they played at this historical moment. All we learn is that this happened and then this and then this—the movie is like a multimillion-dollar grade-school play. The all-star cast includes Paul Giamatti, Billy Bob Thornton, Zac Efron, Jacki Weaver, and Ron Livingston.
