A wealthy Indian businessman (Mukund Shukla) returns to his hometown of Ahmedabad on the eve of its annual kite festival, hoping to mend relationships with his estranged family. Director Prashant Bhargava was born and raised in Chicago, and despite the film’s neorealist aesthetic and handheld camera work, it becomes painfully obvious that he has no real ties to the city or its customs. Instead of letting the vibrant sights and sounds of the city exist naturally onscreen, he just uses them as an exotic backdrop for his contrived screenplay. In Hindi with subtitles.
