Documentary maker Judy Irving (The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill) looks at the pelican population of the San Francisco area and several people who rescue pelicans that have been injured. She notes the devastating effects of pollution and global warming on the pelicans’ habitat, but for the most part this is a genial lesson in animal behavior. The movie invokes a childlike curiosity with the natural world and communicates sincere admiration for the people who tend to it.
