Brian Koppelman and David Levien, who wrote Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience and directed the underrated Michael Douglas vehicle Solitary Man, scripted this entertaining crime thriller, which evokes classic film noir in its snappy dialogue and compact plotting. A hotshot finance student (Justine Timberlake) is taken under the wing of a shady online gambling tycoon (Ben Affleck) based in Costa Rica. What follows isn’t very surprising—there’s never a question of whether Affleck will set up Timberlake as a fall guy, only a question of when—but the mannered speech is fun, the players are charismatic, and director Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) maintains an agreeably brisk pace. With Gemma Arterton and Anthony Mackie.
