First-time director Kang Yi-kwan and lead actress Moon So-ri do a fine job of conveying her character’s shifting emotions in this 2005 Korean drama. Unfortunately they’re emotions we’ve seen a thousand times before. After a young woman’s longtime boyfriend suddenly dumps her, she marries a new suitor whose only stated reason for liking her is that she’s pretty. She gets pregnant, they start bickering, and just when the pace starts to lag the boyfriend shows up again. The skillfully framed compositions change as often as the protagonist’s moods, from tight and intimate to clinically distant, and the young woman’s family is appealingly nutty.
