This 2005 Dutch TV documentary by Constant Meijers tries to shed some light on the secretive “Colonel” Tom Parker, the controlling longtime manager of Elvis Presley. Born in the Netherlands as Andreas Cornelis van Kuijk, he moved to the U.S. in the late 20s, served in the army, and worked as a circus employee and dogcatcher before becoming manager for Eddy Arnold and, in 1955, Presley. Neither Parker nor his close acquaintances ever talked to the press, so Meijers is forced to rely on one of Presley’s bodyguards, an RCA Records employee, and Gordon Stoker of the Jordanaires (the King’s backup singers); they provide some colorful anecdotes but little that isn’t already known. 51 min.
