The most snidely misanthropic film since A Clockwork Orange. Giancarlo Giannini wades through Lina Wertmuller’s fashionably distended mise-en-scene as a small-time hood who slaughters a pimp to protect his sister’s honor, gets sent to a mental hospital for his trouble, escapes by joining Mussolini’s army, and ends up in a concentration camp, where he seduces the female commandant (Shirley Stoler, all 250 pounds of her). Cheap, ugly, pointless, and finally nauseating (1975). In Italian with subtitles.
