Two commitment-phobic Manhattanites (Jason Sudeikis, Alison Brie) meet cute at a sex addicts’ support group; rather than act on their mutual attraction, they enter into a platonic friendship based on total honesty, hoping it will better prepare them for monogamous relationships with others. Playwright-turned-filmmaker Leslye Headland (Bachelorette) directed her own script, which is rife with mannered, theatrical dialogue and candid sex talk. The leads fail to take charge of the wordy material—Sudeikis seems particularly overwhelmed—though there are nice line readings from Amanda Peet (as Sudeikis’s boss) and Natasha Lyonne (as Brie’s straight-talking best friend).
