Like his fellow Saturday Night Live alum Dana Carvey, Mike Myers has created a gallery of memorable comic characters but lacks a screen personality of his own, a deficiency that cripples this 1993 feature about a San Francisco man who suspects his charming fiancee (Nancy Travis) of serial murder. Myers pumps out a river of inventive shtick, but it doesn’t cohere or connect; he seems less a character than a comedian doing couch time on a late-night talk show. Alan Arkin, who appears uncredited as a placid police captain, is the exact opposite: his button-down persona is so fully realized that he can be funny just sitting at a table. Thomas Schlamme directed; with Anthony LaPaglia, Amanda Plummer, and Brenda Fricker. 93 min.
