Ghosts in the computer are the gimmick du jour in horror movies (Pulse, Feardotcom), though no one’s managed to explain what sort of interface hardware turns malevolent spirits into ones and zeros. In this debut feature by William Brent Bell a handful of friends try out a mysterious horror-themed video game, and after a player dies in the game he meets a similar fate in real life. There’s a gothic backstory to all this, which makes no sense but looks pretty cool. With Jon Foster, Samaire Armstrong, Frankie Muniz, and Adam Goldberg. PG-13, 85 min.
