When Richard Jenkins and Mary Steenburgen marry, each brings to the new household a lumpish middle-aged son; these overgrown ten-year-olds (Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly) instantly dislike each other, and the battle is on. Ferrell and Reilly get more mileage out of juvenile pouting and bickering than any other performers I can imagine, but that’s about as far as this goes. Ferrell, director Adam McKay, and producer Judd Apatow first collaborated on Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, and Reilly climbed aboard for the inferior Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby; this comedy is the team’s third, and weakest, project. With Adam Scott and Kathryn Hahn. R.
