Two offbeat programmers from the mid-40s: Strange Impersonation (1946) is an Anthony Mann noir shot for Republic on a rock-bottom budget, with Brenda Marshall as a chemical research scientist. Bewitched (1945) is the first feature of the ponderous Arch Oboler, based on his radio play Alter Ego, about a woman (Phyllis Thaxter) with a second personality trapped inside her—apparently a sort of female version of Donovan’s Brain; Edmund Gwenn costars. Each movie is slightly longer than an hour; film scholar William K. Everson will introduce the program.
