For the first time in years, there’s a local boy in the Cape Cod Baseball League, whose players come from all over the country and have major-league potential. He’s a landscaper’s son and a promising though undisciplined pitcher, and whether he’ll get serious about his baseball career or the daughter of a wealthy client is one theme of this awful light drama. “So you mow her lawn, and now you’re trying to mow her lawn?” his buddy asks, and in the long moment it takes him to process the belabored double entendre, you realize you don’t know whether to laugh with or at him. Mike Tollin directed a screenplay by Kevin Falls and John Gatins; with Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jessica Biel. 108 min.
