Matt Dillon gets top billing as a dedicated blue-collar cop, but he doesn’t have a fighting chance for the audience’s sympathy opposite suave Idris Elba, playing the leader of an upscale gang of LA thieves. Also vying for the alpha male slot in this dopey urban exploitation film, and even more street than Elba, is rapper Tip “T.I.” Harris as an ex-con who’s taken the fall for one of the gang’s heists but still invites them to join him in a big new score. Paul Walker is window dressing as the resourceful wheel-man; the hotshot du jour is Chris Brown (This Christmas), who bounces off of a succession of moving vehicles and plunges through glass with nary a scratch. Laughable subplots about Elba’s addicted sister (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) and Dillon’s crooked partner (Jay Hernandez) only slow the action, which is all this movie has going for it. John Luessenhop directed.
