In this salesmen-talk-about-life drama, old-timers Danny DeVito and Kevin Spacey attempt to educate zealous greenhorn Peter Facinelli as the three wait for action in their company’s hospitality suite during an annual convention of midwest manufacturers. DeVito’s low-key midlife crisis is consistently moving. But Spacey, saddled with the demonically boring role of provocateur, is required to hold out as long as possible before becoming vulnerable. All the actors give the kind of performances that would be mesmerizing onstage, but the superficially cinematic fantasy sequences and scenes set outside the hotel room don’t make the belabored themes any more intriguing. John Swanbeck directed a screenplay by Roger Rueff based on Rueff’s play. 91 min.
