Jason Bourne (Matt Damon), the amnesiac assassin of The Bourne Identity, is back and mad as hell because the CIA won’t leave him in peace (foolish on their part, given that he can wield a rolled-up magazine as a deadly weapon). Director Paul Greengrass (Bloody Sunday) is big on handheld cameras and jittery editing; the result is lean, fast, and a bit crazy, like a greyhound that’s only at ease when running. The action sequences are expert studies in controlled chaos, inducing flinches, gasps, and even, at the screening I attended, applause. The plot is strictly formula, but everything else has such an edge that you’ll hardly notice. PG-13, 108 min.
