This vampire western isn’t arch enough to parody the genre convention of savvy characters spouting ludicrous amounts of information mainly for our benefit. Its ponderous explanations about why there are vampires in Arizona in the new millennium (blah, blah, blah, the Crusades, blah, blah, blah) come from a vampire slayer who’s out to find the source of the strain of vampirism he’s infected with, and though the HIV metaphor is untenable, at least it’s acknowledged. Not long after he gets picked up hitchhiking—by a naif who works for a production company suspiciously like Troma Entertainment—he finds an excuse to bring up Vlad the Impaler. Written and directed by J.S. Cardone (Outside Ozona); with Brendan Fehr, Kerr Smith, Izabella Miko, and Johnathon Schaech. 90 min.
