Marlene Booth’s 1988 short documentary feature about the history of America’s most successful Yiddish newspaper, The Jewish Daily Forward, uses archival material as well as interviews with the paper’s readers and writers, including Isaac Bashevis Singer. On the same program, The Well, David Greenwald’s 1983 short in Yiddish about an Eastern European teenager who immigrates to the U.S. before World War II. The screening will be followed by a lecture by Ellen Cannon, professor of political science at Northeastern Illinois University. A presentation of the Jewish Film Foundation.
