Lon Chaney Jr. was handed the unenviable task of succeeding Boris Karloff as the monster for this 1942 feature, the fourth installment in the Universal Pictures franchise. Chaney looks like a cinder block by comparison, but the movie also offers the welcome spectacle of Bela Lugosi hamming it up as the demented shepherd Ygor. Erle C. Kenton directed; with Cedric Hardwicke, Ralph Bellamy, Lionel Atwill, and Evelyn Ankers.
