During their late-70s heyday the Muppets won huge TV audiences with their corny puns and showbiz in-jokes, but stretched to feature length the formula loses some of its snap. This 1981 adventure finds the gang traveling to London, with Diana Rigg as a high-fashion aristocrat and Charles Grodin as her ne’er-do-well brother, who’s plotting to steal her priceless Baseball Diamond. John Cleese, Peter Ustinov, Robert Morley, and Muppet creator Jim Henson make cameo appearances, but they’re all upstaged by an uncredited Peter Falk, whose monologue on a park bench opposite Kermit the Frog is an exercise in virtuoso daffiness.
