Contrary to what you might think, Largo Winch is not a piece of construction equipment but an action hero created by Jean Van Hamme for a series of Belgian novels in the 1970s, and subsequently adapted to comic books, TV, and movies. This 2008 feature starts off with a bang, as billionaire Nerio Winch is murdered on his yacht; the killing is part of a plot to seize control of his financial empire, the W Group, and the last defense is his disreputable young heir, Largo, a Balkan orphan he adopted in the 80s. Fortunately for the company, Largo turns out to be a formidable knife fighter in the corporate sense; fortunately for this sleek, empty thriller, he turns out to be a formidable knife fighter in the street sense too. Jerome Salle directed; with Tomer Sisley, Melanie Thierry, and Kristin Scott Thomas. In English and subtitled French, Serbian, and Portuguese.
