The Last of Robin Hood

I always wondered where the expression “in like Flynn” came from; according to our own Cecil Adams, it was popularized by the statutory rape charges brought in 1942 against Hollywood legend Errol Flynn (Captain Blood, The Adventures of Robin Hood). This watchable exercise in Tinseltown seediness opens in 1957, when Flynn seduced and supposedly fell head over heels for 15-year-old aspiring actress Beverly Aadland. (Fifteen going on 38, that is.) Kevin Kline, having already played the swashbuckling Douglas Fairbanks in Chaplin (1992), sails through his performance as the aging lothario Flynn; ably supporting Kline are Dakota Fanning as Flynn’s underage paramour and Susan Sarandon as her one-legged mother, a typical Hollywood gargoyle who pimped out her daughter to Flynn to satisfy her own hunger for fame. Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland wrote and directed this 2013 drama.
