Comedian Stephen Chow stars as a kindhearted con man in this low-grade 1991 farce about greedy scams and ruthless competition in hypercapitalistic Hong Kong. In debt to a loan shark, he plots a swindle with the help of a female apprentice (Theresa Mo), but through a chain of coincidences he’s mistaken for a rich heir by a pair of petty crooks who, in debt to the same loan shark, are themselves posing as a wealthy couple. Hungry for laughs, Chow turns every scene into frantic slapstick, and though the film is similar to Italian larceny comedies like Big Deal on Madonna Street, it isn’t in the same league. Lee Lik-chi directed; with Amy Yip. In Cantonese with subtitles. 96 min.
