Rouben Mamoulian, unconcerned for once with “cinemah,” delivered a superior swashbuckler in this 1940 Fox production. Tyrone Power is a shade too fey for the hero, and Linda Darnell a shade too fleshy for the heroine, but the dueling has the grace and lightness of ballet. With Basil Rathbone, J. Edward Bromberg, and excellent sun-baked cinematography by Arthur Miller.
