Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man

After relocating from the Music Box to the Portage last year, this annual 24-hour horror marathon heads west to the beautiful Patio at Austin and Irving Park, where there’s a little more food and drink in the vicinity should you want to take a break from the mayhem. Doors open at 11 AM and features begin at noon, with shorts and trailers interspersed; a ticket lets you come and go as you please. Highlights this year include: the 16-minute Frankensein (1910), made at the Edison Studios, with live organ accompaniment (Sat 10/11, noon); Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney Jr. in Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (12:30 PM); Vincent Price in the Poe adaptation The Tomb of Ligeia (2 PM), Guy Maddin’s Odilon Redon or The Eye Like a Strange Balloon Mounts Toward Infinity (3:40 PM); George Romero’s vampire classic Martin (3:45 PM); Gary Sherman introducing his 1981 feature Dead and Buried (5:30 PM); a compilation of trailers from Roger Corman movies (7:30 PM); Fred Walton introducing his 1986 feature April Fool’s Day (8:15 PM); A Nightmare on Elm Street, Part Two: Freddy’s Revenge with an introduction by star Mark Patton; Dario Argento’s giallo Deep Red (Sun 10/13, 3:30 AM); and Sam Raimi’s Army of Darkness (9:45 AM).
