Like the features nominated every year, the shorts typically demonstrate a high level of professionalism and a conversely low level of artistic courage. Most of the animations fall squarely in line with the inevitable Wallace and Gromit entry, Nick Park’s A Matter of Loaf and Death—polished 3-D work, pitched at children but invested with enough whimsy to hold their parents.
