Iranian filmmaker Ali Reza Amini follows up his first feature, the poignant Letters in the Wind (2002), with this tense and compelling drama about Kurdish refugees trying to cross the border to Iran. A young bride steps on a land mine and her frantic groom runs for help across rugged terrain; as she waits immobilized, other refugees pass by, including a grief-stricken father who carries the body of his dead son; an elderly woman who totes two orphaned granddaughters; and a homeless woman whose cow has run off carrying all her possessions. In Kurdish and Farsi with subtitles. 85 min.
