In this 2008 Iranian drama, a family man working on an ostrich farm outside Tehran gets fired after one of the birds escapes on his watch. Riding his motorbike to town on an errand, he’s repeatedly mistaken for a taxi driver and, after several demurrals, grasps the potential profitability of his situation. Director Majid Majidi (Children of Heaven) deftly counterbalances the dramatic elements of his simple story with physical comedy that poignantly underscores the hero’s single-minded determination to provide for his family, and the nonprofessional cast features Reza Naji in a richly nuanced lead performance. In Farsi with subtitles. 96 min.
