This second big-screen outing for the popular Nickelodeon character feels closer in spirit to classic Looney Tunes than to Pixar or Disney features. The infantile hero travels through time and space to find a top-secret crab-sandwich recipe, but the story is just a pretext for sustained, rapid-fire gags, many of them hysterical, that range from movie parodies to Gary Larson-worthy flights of cartoon weirdness. The supporting characters include a 10,000-year-old talking dolphin that oversees the movement of the planets and, in the live-action segments, a fast-food-loving pirate named Burger-Beard (Antonio Banderas, in what may be his funniest non-Almodovar performance). Paul Tibbitt directed a script by Glenn Berger and Jonathan Aibel.
