After much suspense surrounding its release date, The Woman In The Window has finally arrived. Another intense entry in the current domestic thriller trend, the film follows Anna Fox (Amy Adams), an agoraphobic child psychologist who finds herself spying on the family across the way from her New York City apartment when she witnesses a disturbing act of violence. An adaptation of A.J. Finn’s (Dan Mallory) best-selling novel of the same name with a stacked cast featuring Adams, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Julianne Moore, Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie, Wyatt Russell, and Brian Tyree Henry, the movie is poised to captivate. And while there’s no argument that it will continue to attract attention, it won’t be the sort those involved probably hoped for. More madcap than murder mystery, the film offers a series of reveals that crescendo in a harrowing, if overly computer-generated, climax that sums up the vibe quite well—shtick over substance.
