George Cukor’s 1941 comedy is usually blamed for Greta Garbo’s premature retirement from the screen, but the charge is probably unjust—it’s not a bad film, really, and Garbo was supposedly more upset about the shelving of her beloved Madame Curie project than anything else. I still wouldn’t hold it up as a sterling example of American wit, but it has its moments, and Garbo does a hell of a rhumba.
