Victor Frankenstein

In this cartoonish adaptation of Frankenstein, the title character (James McAvoy) is a dandyish lout and the story unfolds from the perspective of his assistant, Igor (Daniel Radcliffe). McAvoy’s performance is good for a few laughs, but the doctor never seems capable of sustaining a serious thought, let alone creating life. A lengthy and unnecessary subplot centers on a police detective who has it in for the doctor; by the time Frankenstein succeeds in giving life to his modern Prometheus, the development feels like an afterthought. Paul McGuigan directed a script by Max Landis (Chronicle, American Ultra).
