Two LA high schoolers—an effeminate artist (Tye Olson) and a hunky but troubled swimmer (Kyle Clare)—plunge into an ill-fated romance in this earnest tearjerker by writer-director David Oliveras. The formulaic script plays like an after-school special, hammering home the need for tolerance and supportive teachers and parents, but the movie is redeemed by its talented young leads and some artful, water-drenched love scenes. With Karen Black as an art teacher and Greg Louganis as a macho swimming coach. 106 min.
