Three lesbian vampires inhabiting a hyperstylized Berlin initiate a feisty new recruit who’s ambivalent about the idea of killing to survive. This 2010 video feature may be ludicrous as storytelling, but it’s often joyous as filmmaking, brashly leaping between ultraviolent action, art movie atmospherics, and unexpectedly sincere drama. The collision of styles sometimes recalls the schizoid genre exercises of Takashi Miike (Zebraman, The Happiness of the Katakuris), and there’s a rare conviction to the unbridled fantasy: the film is most playful when it’s trampling notions of good taste. Director Dennis Gansel (The Wave) displays a lot of imagination in his widescreen framing. In German with subtitles.
