Now that’s truth in advertising—this vehicle for Nickelodeon comedy star Amanda Bynes is like a periodic table of elements that delight 11-year-old girls. Bynes plays a feisty New York teenager who journeys to London in search of her long-lost father (Colin Firth), a handsome British peer who’s just resigned his seat in the House of Lords to run for the House of Commons. Of course she scandalizes the British fuddy-duddies and ultimately reunites dad with her American mother (Kelly Preston), who’s rejected the upper-crust lifestyle and found personal fulfillment playing soft rock at weddings. Jonathan Pryce and Eileen Atkins lend their pedigrees to this pleasant bubblegum romp, which was inspired by the old Sandra Dee picture The Reluctant Debutante. Dennie Gordon directed. 104 min.
