Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? Credit: Film Movement

In the opening minutes of this Taiwanese comedy, an elderly optometrist announces his retirement and then, standing in the street outside his shop, opens his umbrella and floats away like Mary Poppins. The magic realism of this fanciful moment soon dissipates, but the gentle humor persists as writer-director Arvin Chen unfolds two tangentially related love stories. The more provocative of them involves a young husband and father tempted to restart the gay love life that preceded his straight marriage; Chen’s light treatment of the situation is refreshing, though its resolution is so socially conventional that one wonders if the whole conflict was just a tease. In English and subtitled Mandarin and Korean.
