Director Arturo Ripstein and screenwriter Paz Alicia Garciadiego will present the Chicago premiere of their latest feature (1991), based on a story by Guy de Maupassant about a former prostitute working as a laundress in a brothel, her prostitute daughter, and a sick and homeless sailor who belatedly discovers that the two women are his mother and sister. The story is told in four sections, the first three corresponding to the viewpoints of the three central characters. With Patricia Reyes Spindola and Alejandro Parodi.
